Description
This necklace is part of a set made from 2 vintage tahitian shell plates. These shells are also know as black lipped mother of pearl, they at one point might have produced black Tahitian pearls. But when I found them they were sold as plates but I saw more, I saw an opportunity for these plates to be ICONIC pieces of jewelry that begs the question what on your plate came from Mexico, what on your plate came from a land domesticated and foraged by inidgenous people who created a lot of the foods you enjoy today.
I speaking of course of the Zapotec tomato, the aguacate, cacao, achiote, jalapeños and more. My goal for these necklaces was to create a safe space for those who wear it to say with confidence, Mexico
This iconic piece is adored with a vintage enamel copper chain that clasps at the front for ease of wear
